According to GMANews.TV Android powered HTC handsets may soon be available in the Philippines.

HTC Philippines manager Mark Sergio has indicated that his company is preparing to ship Android powered handsets to his market in response to an overwhelming surge of inquiries from Filipino customers expressing interest in the
T-Mobile G-1 which is manufactured by the Taiwanese company.

Sergio added, "Even if the Philippines is a pre-dominantly pre-paid market, there are subscribers who don't use entry-level phones and who prefer smart phones like the ones that we offer. We are targeting that market,"

While most of HTC’s handsets in that market have been geared towards high-end users, Sergio also hinted that HTC may be exploring options of bringing midrange handsets in order to appeal to a wider range of consumers there.

HTC handsets previously released in the Philippines have all employed the Windows Mobile operating system.
